Gifts of any amount are welcome and count toward membership.
How membership works
- Membership follows the calendar year, January 1 through December 31.
- Join on or after October 1, 2026, and your membership runs through December 31, 2027.
- Your level is set by your total giving during the membership year, including gifts of any amount.
- If you think your gifts have reached a higher level, write to contact@virginiainvertebrates.org and we will update your membership.
- A monthly membership continues for as long as your monthly gift does. To update your card or cancel a monthly gift, visit our donor portal and enter the email address you gave with. You will be sent a link to manage your gift.
- Shirts are sent in the size you choose or the closest available size.

Through a donor-advised fund
We welcome gifts from donor-advised funds. Ask your fund to send a grant to Virginia Institute for Invertebrates, Ltd. (EIN 33-1384207), PO Box 10014, Blacksburg, VA 24062. Then write to contact@virginiainvertebrates.org so we can enroll you as a member. Members who give through a donor-advised fund do not receive the shirt or the Invertebrate Spotlight print.
Land and land use
Both our monitoring and conservation efforts require secure, long-term access to or protection of Virginia lands. If you have an interest in donating land or a conservation easement on a portion of your land, please get in touch. With invertebrates, one can do a lot with a little, and we’d love to hear about your parcel, no matter how small. Please send an email to contact@virginiainvertebrates.org.
Important Tax Information
Virginia Institute for Invertebrates, Ltd. is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN 33-1384207). All contributions are tax‑deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. Donors will receive a written acknowledgment for contributions of $250 or more. This acknowledgment will detail the amount of the contribution and any goods or services provided.
Your membership gift is tax-deductible, less the estimated fair market value of the benefits you receive.
Patch: No goods or services of value are provided. Your full gift is deductible.
Corridor, Watershed, and Commonwealth: The estimated fair market value of benefits is $16 (T-shirt $15, Invertebrate Spotlight print $1). The deductible amount of your gift is limited to the amount you give in excess of $16.
If you choose “Decline benefits” at checkout, no goods or services are provided and your full gift is deductible.
